Take Spaghetti from Ordinary to Extordinary

Spaghetti is a classic dish that most people grew up with and probably make on a regular basis. Spaghetti is so popular there is even a National Spaghetti day on January 14. You don’t have to make Spaghetti from scratch to make a memorable pasta dish.  You can use your favorite sauce from the store and enhance its flavor add in some fresh sauteed mushrooms and it will take your everyday dinner to a whole new level.


  • 1 box of Spaghetti
  • 1 jar of Spaghetti sauce
  • 1 lb. fresh mushrooms
  • 1 lb. ground hamburger
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 1/3 tsp. Italian Seasoning
  • 1 Tbl water
  • 1 Tbl oil
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • pepper
  • 1/4 tsp Beef Bouillon
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • dash of white pepper
  • 1 Tb butter
  • salt to taste

Make You Spaghetti Sauce

In a medium pot add your jar of spaghetti sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, white pepper, 3-4 grinds of black pepper, beef bouillon, garlic powder, and onion powder. Let this simmer on low heat and let the sauce simmer anywhere from 2 to 5 hours.

Next mix your hamburger with 1/4 tsp salt and 10 grinds of black pepper.  Place your hamburger in a skillet over medium-high heat and brown.

Prepare your water for your pasta and make sure to add some salt and some olive oil to your water to keep your noodles from sticking and to add some flavor.  Cook noodles according to the directions on the package.

Time to Add The Finishing Touch

Take your 1 lb. mushrooms and rinse them. Next slice them if needed. I used a white mushroom. Next, heat a pan to medium heat and add your mushrooms and 1 Tbl water. Cover the pan with a lid and let simmer. The mushrooms will cook in their own juices and will shrink by 1/2 the size. Add 1 Tb butter and salt to taste.

Just by adding a few extra ingredients to any dish you can give it something new and delicious.
