The Perfect Steak

Steak is an often popular food dish for many but how many of us know how to cook a good steak. I for one did not and decided to learn how to sear a steak.  I don’t eat a lot of meat maybe once or twice a week so when I get to enjoy a steak I want it to taste fantastic.

Preparing you steak

First and foremost when you are preparing a steak to make sure to not use a wooden cutting board.  If there are any extra fatty edges you will need to trim the steak and if you use a wooden cutting board the wood is less sanitary and can keep bacteria on the board. This kind of board would never be used in a commercial kitchen as it is illegal.  Plastic is just cleaner and safer so use a plastic cutting board for all raw meat trimming.

Sear That Steak

Make sure to salt and pepper each side of the steak to your liking.  Place a pan on medium high heat. I love my cast iron pan and will be using it.  Next, you will want to add some clarified butter to your pan which will add some serious flavor.  Place the steak in the pan and make sure to move it a little so that it does not stick to the pan. Cook your steak 5-6 minutes on each side.

When you have seared your steak make sure to dress it up with some good side dishes. I myself love loaded baked potatoes and some blanched asparagus with butter, salt, and pepper.
